The Active Age
Central Plains Area Agency on Aging has found two providers to take over congregate meals and home-delivered meals previously provided by Everfull, a Hutchinson-based nonprofit.
One is Senior Services, Inc., which already operates Meals on Wheels in Wichita, delivering about 700 to 750 meals to homebound seniors daily.
Senior Services will begin providing congregate meals at eight sites: Huston Center, La Familia Senior Community Center, Linwood Park Senior Center, Maple Gardens Village, Northeast Senior Center, Oaklawn Senior Center, Orchard Park Recreation Center, and Sheridan Village.
“Senior Services is a longstanding partner of CPAAA, and we are confident in their ability to continue delivering high-quality, dependable meal services to the Wichita community,” CPAAA said in a news release about the programs.
The other new provider is TRIO Community Meals, a Houston-based company that bills itself as the “largest provider of older adult nutrition programs in the country.” According to its website, the company has been in business for 50 years, serves about 125 million meals annually and has more than 90 distribution centers.
TRIO will serve at the food service contractor for 12 congregate and home delivered meal programs in Butler, Harvey and Sedgwick counties effective Jan. 5th. The sites include Cheney Senior Center, Clearwater Senior Center, Derby Senior Center, Gordy Heritage Senior Living, Goddard Senior Center, Haysville Senior Center, Hesston Senior Center, Mulvane Senior Center, Newton Senior Center, Park City Senior Center, Peachtree Plaza Tower Senior Living and Sedgwick Senior Center.
CPAAA said it “is working with each of these locations to coordinate the meal programs and we are grateful for the partnerships to ensure that older adults can access the meal programs at these locations. TRIO will begin providing meals service Jan. 5 with an initial startup using frozen meal service for the first two weeks in January and meal service starting Jan. 20 that will look more like the current congregate and home delivered meal programs. Participants are being notified of more detailed information through a letter which was distributed in late December.”
