The Wichita Journalism Collaborative receives financial support from two organizations:
Solutions Journalism Network
The Solutions Journalism Network awarded a $100,000 grant to the collaborative through the Local Media Project, funded by The Knight Foundation. The Solutions Journalism Network’s mission is to spread the practice of solutions journalism: rigorous reporting on responses to social problems. They seek to rebalance the news, so that everyday people are exposed to stories that help them understand problems and challenges, and stories that show potential ways to respond.

As part of its news and information initiative, The Wichita Community Foundation supports Wichita Journalism Collaborative through funding for innovative and experimental approaches to meeting the community’s information needs, including collaborative reporting, audience and community engagement, translation, and special projects. Past support has included local workshops, various learning opportunities, including travel grants to national conferences for interested media and community partners to learn journalism initiatives and innovations around the country.
